L'Été Musical en Bergerac - Festival du Périgord Pourpre

The english fortified town Monpazier was founded in 1284 by King Edward, 1st king of England. It is still today one of the best examples of the Hundred Years' War's military architecture. The concerts are taking place on the beautiful central square, la Place des Cornières, "the Square of Corners".
The Festival's Office - Gallery is at the 42 rue Saint-Jacques.
3 km away from Monpazier, in the municapility of Gaugeac on the way to Villeréal, the Castle of Saint-Germain is an ancient annex of the Castle of Biron. It welcomes in its courtyard some of the chamber music' concerts.

Cadouin is an Abbey founded in 1115 by Géraud de Salles. Located in the Bélingou small valley, the Abbey is classed a UNESCO World Site and protected by the surrounding dense forest of "la Bessède".
The concerts take place in the abbey-church or in the closter, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries.
The site of Saint Avit Sénieur became a place of pilgrimage and a stage on one of the ways leading to Saint Jacques de Compostelle. It is as such that the abbey-church, built at the end of the 11th century and where the concerts take place, was classed a UNESCO World Site.

Downhill the Castle of Lanquais, one will find an imposing and beautiful barn. It has a sloping roof and a 3 naves framework, made out of an enormous oak-tree which stood througout the years. The acoustic is perfect for chamber music concerts.
The Cadouin Harbour, ancient harbour of Bergerac and entrance to the old town, is what remains of ancient times when barges were loading and unloading their merchandise before returning to Bordeaux through the Garonne. The stage and tribune of the festival is at the edge of the river.

The fortified town of Villeréal was founded in 1267 by Alphonse de Poitiers. The church, welcoming the concerts, has one unique nave in southern gothic style and dates from the same period.
